Originally from Chicago, Robert unexpectedly embarked on his yoga journey while he was a foreign student studying French literature in Grenoble, France. Little did he know his first yoga class in a makeshift yoga studio in someone's old walk-up flat in this south-eastern French city would eventually lead to a dedicated life of yoga practice and teaching. After returning to Chicago, he began a career in food and wine, a lifestyle which put him under a lot of stress and caused him serious digestive problems. In his combat against these illnesses, he stepped back on the mat and developed a steady and regular practice that healed his body and sparked in his heart a desire to share the knowledge of yoga.
Robert completed his first 200-hour teacher training course with Andrey Lappa, who helped him get in touch with the deeper sense of history and philosophy in the yogic sciences. He then travelled throughout India and received a diploma in Yoga Therapy at Yoga Vidya Gurul, followed by a mentorship at a Yogic Hospital in Nashik, India, where he learnt to prescribe daily routines of meditation, asanas and lifestyle changes for patients suffering from cancer, heart diseases and diabetes etc. Robert is also grateful to have studied with Patrick Creelman, who not only helped him deepen his own physical practice, but also gave him effective pedagogical tools to reach out to more students so more people can benefit from yoga.
Robert offers physically challenging classes where his students are encouraged to have fun and grow at their own pace. His teaching emphasises alignment and yoga's effects on the holistic wellness of the practitioner. He considers himself an eternal student of yoga and continues to grow with his students. Robert structures his classes in such a way that the practice prepares our mind for introspection so we can unify the world within and without. He invites students of all levels to come to his grounding but strength-building practice and support each other on this journey of growth.
